Update

So Desolation is done. That is to say, it is completely written. I still have to go through it a couple more times and make sure everything flows properly and the like, then it is off to critique land and then solicitation (YAY).

Today I tried to continue working on Whispers of a Distant Star, but I am not sure what is wrong with it. I think my mind wasn’t with it, but I am not sure. See Desolation nearly wrote itself, and I think it is because the main character was a guy, and whatever romance was in the book was M/M which I can relate to. Whispers is a straight relationship, so maybe that is causing me some tension there. This weekend I will do some soul searching to decide how to continue. It could also be that I just don’t have enough material for the novel. I have only plotted out 19 chapters, and I am already at chapter 8 with 10k words. Maybe I just need more storyline.

The issue I have with making the novel another M/M one is I think it will cut down the audience considerably, and I want this something that EVERYONE will give a chance, and I am just unsure how many people would read a Sci-Fi with M/M romance mixed in. Hmmmm, decisions. I guess I just need to make up my own mind and write what is in my heart.

Who’s Your Fledgling Horror Author?

So this has been a really hectic day. One of those days that get you frazzled beyond repair, EARLY! But that is beside the point. At present I find myself needing to get back to my center, relaxed and in the mood for the awesome creativity that is going to happen today.

Because(!) today is the day I finish writing the first draft of Desolation.

I am not sure about my fellow writers, but I find the time between the first draft and the second draft, things change considerably. Sometimes to the point that the story no longer resembles what was written in the first draft. Is this a problem everyone faces, or is it that I am writing the story before it is completely realized?

Whatever the reason, later is better than never I guess. Desolation has gone from a typical zombie novel to something much deeper. For this I am very grateful. But I am skeptical that I am writing horror well enough. This is the first time I have written horror, and I don’t think my mind works the same way some of the masters’ do. Of course I don’t know any of the masters, but I can only assume they have black altars set up in their writing space, not a sunny, cheerful atmosphere like mine is. Long story short, I don’t feel like I can write horror, but I am giving it a try.

I will do what I always do, I am setting up a critique group for Desolation and we will go over it once the second draft is done. We will get it in ship shape (what does that even mean?) and then it will be off to publishers and agents. I am not spending a lot of time on them though, because I want to get this book out of my hands and into my reader’s hands as fast as possible, and constant rejections won’t get that done.

So here we go. Plunging into my last 3 hours of my day job, and then into my dream job to finish one hell of a tale for all of you!

(Note: If you are a friend or fan of mine on facebook and are interested in critiquing Desolation, let me know by message. Wanna know more about Desolation? Visit here.)

Random Update

This is just a check in because I haven’t been posting much here lately. With my real life job and writing and studies, things have been pretty hectic. However, I am still able to find a lot of time to peruse gagism.com, go figure that when I have the least time I do the most screwing off.

It turns out bath salts were NOT the cause of the zombie face eating in Miami. All that was found in the man’s system was pot. This is very strange indeed, I have never known pot to do something like that, but who knows, I have never known much about pot.

The search for actual necromancy stuff has fallen short, so I have started making up my own stuff, which I think falls in place well. However, the little bit I was able to research makes me really wonder about Lord Voldemort, JK never actually came out and said it, but I do think he was a necromancer.

Desolation is coming along great, but sometimes I feel it is pouring out of me too easily, like I am missing something. I think this means it isn’t fully ready yet, but I am going with it, if I still feel that way with the second draft, I will just plug on and whatever was “missing” will come up in later books.

The Bonds of Blood rewrite has taken backburner to Desolation, as well as Whispers of a Distant Star, but as soon as this demon is out on paper, I promise to return to those.

I have been focusing a lot on promotion research as well, and if you have a goodreads account, why don’t you look me up, because as my books get closer to release, I will start making sample available there. I am going to try the conventional publishing route, but if that doesn’t work out relatively fast (because I am impatient) I will self-publish my work, so stay tuned for information on free giveaway promotions.

That’s it for now, back to the grind. Hope this finds everyone well and have an amazing weekend!

The Bonds of Blood Second Edition

So I am in a pickle. The Bonds of Blood is due for a second edition. I would say it is long overdue for a second edition. I don’t feel it has lived up to its full potential. But people are adding it to their “To Read” shelves.

Should I e-mail them individually and tell them what is going on with it and let them know I will keep them informed of when it will be re-released? Or should I let the current book ride and then release the second edition? I don’t want people reading this version and thinking I am not a good writer because this first book is long and drawn out.

Suggestions?

Desolation

That is the name of my new book. I don’t want to reveal too much about it yet, but I will give sneak peaks now and then as I get closer to finishing the first draft. Let me just say this is the first book I have written that I am completely behind 110%. To me this mean I am evolving as a writer. Where my journeys will take me now, no one knows.

I have been working on the book now for 1.5 weeks and have it 1/3rd of the way done. I can’t wait to share more with you all!

The Zombies Ate my . . . Other Projects

Currently I am working on another project, it is new to me and tearing out of me with a frenzy. I have learned one thing and that is write when it is there to write, and that is what I am doing. My other projects have been placed on a temporary hold while I get this one down on paper, but honestly while it is taking up all of my time lately, it is coming fast and building itself as it goes.

This is a first for me, where the story and the characters have just come to life for me with little building other than an outline of chapters.

Anyway, wish me luck and I will keep you updated on Gnobi and the Neferis gang as more comes about with them in the coming weeks/months.
